Digital Dental X-Rays in North Center, Chicago
What Are Dental X-Rays?
Dental X-rays reveal what a visual exam alone would miss. At our North Center, Chicago office, digital X-rays and 3D imaging let Dr. Barsa and Dr. Delafuente see underlying cavities, infections, impacted teeth, and issues with old restorations that wouldn't otherwise be visible. Digital X-rays use a very small amount of radiation to produce a detailed, high-quality image, making them safe for the vast majority of patients.
Why Are Dental X-Rays Needed?
X-rays are part of most dental appointments. For routine preventive visits, they help us detect and track changes to your oral health over time. For urgent visits, they let us quickly identify the problem and the best treatment option. We'll also take X-rays before, during, and after certain procedures, such as root canals or tooth extractions.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental X-Rays?
Because digital dental X-rays use such a low dose of radiation, they're safe for most patients at our North Center dental office. We'll always let you know when X-rays are recommended, and you have the option to decline — though the benefits of catching a problem early almost always outweigh the minimal risk involved.
What Happens During a Dental X-Ray?
A member of our team will seat you comfortably in one of our exam rooms and drape a lead apron over you to help shield against radiation. A small sensor is placed inside your mouth, the machine is angled, and the image is captured — this is repeated for each area needed. Dr. Barsa or Dr. Delafuente reviews the completed images during your appointment, often useful in planning ahead for services like wisdom teeth removal or dental implants.
