Dental X-Rays
What are Dental X-Rays?
A dental x-ray can help us to see what would otherwise be missed with a regular examination. X-rays allow our dentists in Chicago to see underlying cavities, infections, impacted teeth and issues with restorations that would go unnoticed. These x-rays use a small amount of radiation to produce a high-quality in-depth image. They’re completely safe for the majority of our patients to have done in our office.
Why are Dental X-Rays needed?
Dental x-rays will be needed at the majority of your dental appointments. For routine preventative care, these x-rays help us to detect and monitor any changes to your oral health. For emergency appointments, we can get a feel for what the problem is and the best treatment available to you. We may take x-rays before, during and after certain procedures, like root canals and surgeries.
Who’s a good candidate for Dental X-Rays?
Because dental x-rays use such a small amount of radiation, they are safe for most of our patients to have done in our Chicago dental office. We can let you know when and if x-rays are needed and you always have the option to decline having them done. However, keep in mind that the benefits of having dental x-rays taken far outweigh any risks that may be involved. They are an important part of your overall dental health and well-being.
What happens during the procedure for Dental X-Rays?
One of our trained dental staff members will sit you comfortably in one of our examining rooms. We drape a lead apron over your body to help in refracting any radiation. A small device is then placed inside of the mouth so that the actual machine can be angled to take the image. The image is taken and the device is moved to another area of the mouth. This step is repeated until all of the necessary x-rays have been taken and developed for Dr. Barsa to look over during your appointment.

Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatments are ideal for patients who want to protect their teeth and prevent future issues with tooth decay. If you don’t get enough fluoride through the water you’re drinking or the products you’re using, we might recommend that you have additional fluoride treatment applied to your teeth.
Cosmetic Fillings
A dental filling is a restoration that is specifically used to fill in an area of one or more teeth that have become decayed. Dental decay, known as a cavity, can infiltrate a tooth and cause it to become weak.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a type of restoration that is meant to replace a missing tooth. Bridges are durable, long-lasting restorations that can stay securely in place for decades with proper care. A bridge is ideal for patients who wouldn’t necessarily be eligible for a dental implant.
