What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic procedure that helps to improve the look of minor imperfections and flaws at the front of your smile. Bonding uses composite resin material to cover areas of discoloration, staining, cracks, chips, gaps and spaces. Bonding can last for about 10 years, so it’s a long-term solution that’s relatively noninvasive. Bonding can be done quickly and easily in our Chicago dental office, with most appointments taking no longer than 60 minutes

Why is Dental Bonding needed?

Dental bonding may be needed if your front teeth are chipped, cracked, have spaces and gaps between them as well as have areas of staining and discoloration. Bonding is matched to your existing dentition, so you won’t know where the bonding material starts and ends. Bonding is often done on only the front teeth to improve the look of a patient’s smile.

Who’s a good candidate for Dental Bonding?

Dr. Barsa or Dr. Delafuente will perform an examination of your teeth to determine if you’d benefit from bonding. We first check to make sure that the teeth don’t need additional treatment, like a filling or a root canal. We then help to create a treatment plan specific to your cosmetic needs. Our goal is to provide you with a full, beautiful smile that you can feel confident in showing off.

What happens during Dental Bonding?

You will come into our Chicago dental clinic and be seated comfortably. Local anesthetic may or may not be needed depending on the type of bonding that is done. We prepare the teeth by applying a bonding gel and then place the composite resin. Once the material is put into place, it’s smoothed and detailed to mimic the look of your natural tooth. The material is cured several times to ensure it’s hardened into place. Your new bonding will last for about a decade before it may need to be replaced as it shows signs of wear and tear.
